AWS announced a HIPAA-eligible health care service “Healthlake” which can be used by health care companies, Insurance, and pharmaceutical companies to store, transform, query, and analyze health data consistently.
Over the past decade, Health care industry has witnessed a digital transformation, with organisations capturing huge volumes of patient information every day. But, this data is often unstructured with huge information confined in clinical notes, Insurance claims, Recorded conversations and more.
The process to extract this information is work-intensive and highly vulnerable to mistakes. The cost of maintaining these systems and operational intricacy is a challenge for most health organizations. AWS HealthLake removes the heavy lifting of health data analysis to provide a complete view of each patient’s medical history in a secure, compliant, and auditable way. Let’s say a health care provider wants to predict when a diabetic patient might develop high blood pressure.
First AWS HealthLake ingests this available unstructured data like doctor’s notes, prescriptions and lab reports and uses natural language processing to extract meaningful information such as medications, diagnoses and test results. That data is then indexed so it could be easily readable and searched.
Prebuilt ML models and Amazon sage maker work on top of the extracted structured data so developers can apply Advanced analytics and make important predictions such as the probability of the patient developing high blood pressure from matching patients to clinical trials and analysing population health trends, optimizing availability of hospital resources. AWS Health Lake enables health care organizations to make sense of health data and ultimately offer better care for patients.
